Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) MSN Degree Track

A master’s degree in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) equips healthcare professionals with the advanced knowledge and clinical skill needed to provide comprehensive healthcare to adults and older adults with acute or chronic illness and/or exacerbation of health problems. Acute care nurse practitioners formulate critical thinking, clinical decision, and evidence-based practice to support the assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment, symptom evaluation, and care management for the needs of acutely, chronically, or critically ill patients. The student will develop advanced nursing practice in the specialty role of the AGACNP to facilitate an interprofessional/interdisciplinary approach to care management of patients in acute inpatient, short-stay, urgent care settings, emergency, trauma, and critical care settings.

Graduates will obtain the education for certification for the specialty role of AGACNP and obtain state licensure prior to practicing as a nurse practitioner in the acute care setting.

The Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Track MSN degree from Morningside University’s Nylen School of Nursing consists of 46 total credit hours, including 25 credits from master’s core classes and 21 specialty course credits. Students in this track will complete 750 clinical/practicum hours along with one on-campus residence for skills practice lab. Students may choose to combine the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nure Practitioner with Family Nurse Practitioner track to allow for more flexibility in career path and expanded practice.
