The Special Education Initial Licensure program is an Iowa-only licensure teacher preparation program for non-teachers. It prepares candidates who possess a bachelor’s degree in an area outside of education to be teachers for students with severe behavior disorders and learning disabilities, or for students with severe intellectual disabilities, in Iowa’s elementary, middle, and high schools. This program is entirely online with the exception of field experiences which can be arranged in your local area.This program leads to a teacher intern license in the second year.
