Faith/Spiritual

Morningside students come from a broad range of backgrounds, and we understand that this includes religious affiliations. This allows us to interact with and learn about many different beliefs as well as connect with local and national ministries. We do honor the college’s affiliation with the United Methodist Church, but there are many ways to get involved on- and off-campus.

MORNINGSIDE CAMPUS MINISTRIES

Meet the Chaplain:

Andy Nelson 1

Andy Nelson is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Originally from Red Wing, MN, he moved to Sioux City in 2012 when his wife, Dr. Jessica Pleuss, joined Morningside’s psychology faculty.  Prior to service as Campus Chaplain at Morningside, Andy served in campus ministry at the University of South Dakota (2012-2015), and as Pastor of Education and Youth Ministry at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN (2009-2012).

Andy is passionate about engaging with students in discussions of faith, family, and life in general. He also works to provide students a comfortable environment to worship and fellowship with other students. Andy is always open for meetings or conversations, whether or not you participate in other faith or spiritual events.

Andy and Jessica have three young children whom you will occasionally see in tow about campus. They are also licensed foster parents – so don’t be alarmed if their family expands and contracts in unexpected ways!  Andy loves to spend time in his vegetable garden, out in his canoe, and in a comfortable chair with a cup of coffee and a good novel.
